In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the bank operational risk management framework is robust and effective at branches, guaranteeing strong controls, processes, and resources align with the bank’s Enterprise Risk Management framework.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Assessment, Analysis & Reporting:
- Collaborate with branches to conduct Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) using the Governance and Compliance Management (GCM) system, adhering to Operational Risk guidelines.
- Review and validate RCSA test results from branches to ensure compliance with standards before submission to the Risk and Compliance Committee (RCC).
- Provide guidance and training to branches on performing RCSA testing via the GCM system.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews on RCSA test results to ensure alignment with guidelines and report findings through the GCM system.
- Track and manage ineffective controls and operational discrepancies identified in RCSAs, Risk events, and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).
- Report risk events through the GCM system and perform Quality Analysis (QA) to ensure data accuracy and adherence to reporting guidelines.
- Guide branches on identifying, capturing, and tracking risk events and KRIs on the GCM system.
- Assist branches in implementing Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) requirements and ensure timely closure of identified issues.
- Regularly review and maintain relevant, measurable, and value-adding KRIs.
- Consolidate operational risk data received from branches to create detailed and summary reports as required by governance committees.
- Support the Head Office Operational Risk team in monitoring branch-related actions arising from governance committees.
- Proactively communicate significant operational risk issues to the Senior Manager; Operational Risk and keep stakeholders informed of corrective action progress.
Business Empowerment and Risk Monitoring:
- Collaborate with branches to define and implement well-defined controls, reducing financial and non-financial losses and fraud incidences.
- Provide input and advice on designing new or revised controls and procedures in line with business structure and processes.
- Work as part of a team to identify and manage operational risks daily, serving as a reference source for Operational Risk requirements.
- Empower and guide branches in understanding NMB’s risk management tools (Risk Events, KRIs, RCSAs, etc.) and oversee their implementation.
- Collaborate with branches and zonal offices to enhance control performance across the entire branch network.
- Undertake any additional assignments as delegated by the Senior Manager; Operational Risk.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proven experience in a bank branch environment.
- Understanding of core retail and commercial banking products.
- Knowledge of risks, controls, risk management tools, and methodologies.
- Familiarity with operational processes and control frameworks.
- Strong facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in IT skills, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Technical risk management skills (e.g., risk assessment, control design).
- Teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective time management to prioritize and execute tasks efficiently, both individually and within a team.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
- Additional professional certification is a plus.
- Over 3 years of banking experience, preferably in Risk Management or Audit.
- Previous risk management experience in auditing, operational risk management, or compliance/controls roles is advantageous.
